Appointing a Yacht Delivery Company

Employing someone to deliver your yacht has hidden advantages for new boat owners who join the delivery for all or part of the voyage.  Most notably is the chance to learn on a one to one basis from experienced, qualified captains and crew. A captain who has specific experience of Biscay for example can provide an element of safety and reassurance. It also provides the ideal opportunity to learn about and operate the yacht’s complex systems.

Established over 26 years ago Reliance Yacht Management quickly became the world leader providing delivery and logistical services to the major charter companies, dealerships and brokers worldwide. With a team of over 60 captains is easy for them to find the captain with the relevant experience to suit your needs whether that is catamarans, traditional rigs, Panama transits, Gulf of Aden, power boats, Biscay, Baltic or Brisbane.

The supply of safety and charter equipment is now a growing part of Reliance Yacht management’s business. They are able to supply items at a discount and have delivered direct to your yacht. Many of the charter companies in the Caribbean are making savings to have all equipment required for coding to be placed on board in Europe before delivery to their operating area.

The company is run from offices in Hampshire in the UK with satellite offices in Netherlands, Australia and more recently Malta. Managing director Nick Irving coordinates operations. He is an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean and a member of the Institute of Directors. With nearly 30 Atlantic crossings, several trans Pacifics and numerous deliveries over many years across northern Europe and the Mediterranean he commands respect throughout the industry and is the ideal person to have looking after your yacht.  All company operations and procedures are vetted by a third party annually and awarded ISO9001. No other yacht delivery company has achieved this.

When you ask Reliance Yacht Management to deliver your yacht they will create a secure dedicated webpage that gives you instant access to all the latest position reports, weather charts, photographs, video and updates from both the captain and our Operations desk. Yachts are tracked constantly using the Globalstar constellations of satellites.

Operating Procedures

All Captains working for Reliance Yacht management are required to maintain a high level of service and professionalism. Written Standard Operating Procedures help achieve this and give guidelines to what should be expected.

In compliance to its ISO9001 accreditation, Reliance yacht Management provides written condition reports for the yachts before and after delivery, they have clear policies when it comes to alcohol on board and each Captain can use templates provided to complete risk assessments.

Surface areas and potential places of chafe are identified and protected. Reliance has produced an excellent video showing the priority given to this part of their work and can be seen on their website.

How does it work?

Reliance will need to know a little about your yacht, age, model, location etc. and details about the safety equipment on board including whether the liferaft and flares are in date. Reliance will then provide a quotation for the delivery clearly identifying what is and what is not included.

What does it cost?

Reliance Yacht management aims to provide a competitive proposal with one working day from inquiry. Quotes will be based on completing the delivery within a time allowance. This takes into consideration the vessel, the route and time of year and will include days required for preparation and planned stops. If the delivery takes longer that the allocated time, it will be generally down to extreme or unexpected weather, or technical problems.

Who uses Reliance Yacht Management?

Clients are both corporate and private, large and small.

The leading charter fleets in the Caribbean and Mediterranean are regular clients including Sunsail, Moorings, Horizon Yacht Charters, the Catamaran Company. Reliance Yacht Management also works closely with the leading manufacturers and the captains have expert knowledge of the latest productions of Beneteau, Lagoon, Nautitech, Jeanneau, Halberg Rassy, Fountaine Pajot and many others. There are many Client comments available to read on line.

Nick Irving encourages new clients to take up references and contact others that have used their services. For all the hype and marketing a company can produce, there is nothing like actually talking to other customers about their yacht delivery experiences.
